Stop reconciling by hand. Start monitoring from your CMDB.
2Steps connects to your CMDB and configures network device monitoring automatically - keeping ServiceNow or BMC Helix in sync with your dashboards, no spreadsheet required.
Two records of the same devices, and nothing keeping them in sync
A CMDB such as ServiceNow holds the official list of what exists. A separate monitoring tool checks whether those devices actually respond. When the two are reconciled by hand, the gap between them shows up as blind spots and false alarms.
Staff extract the device list from the CMDB, compare it against the monitoring tool's configuration, and add or remove entries by hand. Newly commissioned devices can go unmonitored, and retired devices can keep generating alerts, until the next manual pass.
2Steps treats the CMDB as the single source of truth. It pulls the current device list through an API and creates or retires monitoring jobs automatically as devices are added or removed - no manual export, comparison, or config edit required.
Monitoring stays aligned with what the CMDB actually lists, so false alerts from decommissioned devices drop and new devices get covered faster. An inaccurate CMDB record now produces a visible monitoring consequence, giving staff a reason to keep it current.
Where 2Steps fits in
2Steps matches monitoring to whatever the CMDB currently lists - retrieving the device list on a regular schedule, checking every device directly, and publishing results to the dashboards your team already watches.
Automated CMDB sync
The device list is retrieved from the CMDB through an API on a regular schedule. Monitoring jobs are created for new devices and retired for removed ones - no one touches a config file.
Independent ICMP & SNMP checks
Every device on the list is checked directly and captured as a simple metric - 0 for lost packets, 1 for a device responding normally.
Publishes straight to your dashboards
Results are pushed into your existing monitoring platform and appear on the same operational dashboards teams already watch - no new tool to learn.
Works with any CMDB
Not tied to a single vendor - 2Steps integrates with ServiceNow and alternatives such as BMC Helix, whether or not an agent-based collector has ever been used.
Retires legacy collectors
Where legacy agent-based collectors are no longer needed, they - and the manual reconciliation behind them - can be decommissioned.
Runs entirely on-premises
The platform runs inside your own environment. Nothing is installed on the target device, and no data leaves it.
Built for your entire fleet
Any device the CMDB tracks can be checked over ICMP or SNMP, at the scale a real enterprise network operates at.
Switches & routers
Core network infrastructure, checked on the same schedule your CMDB is refreshed - not the schedule a spreadsheet was last updated on.
Firewalls & proxies
Security and edge appliances stay covered as they're added or replaced, without a separate request to the monitoring team.
SAN switches & storage
Storage fabric devices are picked up automatically as the CMDB record changes, closing a gap that's easy to miss manually.
Voice & UPS systems
Coverage extends beyond IP networking gear to voice infrastructure and power systems tracked in the same CMDB.
Enterprise scale
Scales with the size of your network, without splitting polling across manually managed worker processes.
Compliance & audit evidence
An ongoing, automatically refreshed record that monitoring configuration matches the CMDB - ready for audit, without a manual sign-off cycle.
Who benefits
Closing the gap between the CMDB and the monitoring tool changes the day-to-day for every team that touches either system.
Monitoring teams
Alerts and dashboards can be trusted at face value, without a separate step to check whether they're still current.
ServiceNow & CMDB owners
An inaccurate record now shows up as a monitoring problem, which gives the team that owns it a reason to keep it current.
Network staff
One place to update device status, and fewer false alerts reaching the team as a result.
IT operations
Less time spent manually configuring monitoring, and fewer tickets raised chasing alerts that turn out not to be real.
Business management
More confidence that monitoring data reflects reality, supporting better decisions and stronger operational resilience.
Built for scale & automation
An automated API sync replaces the manual spreadsheet reconciliation - and the parallel worker processes and config files that come with running an agent-based collector by hand.
- Automatic API sync, no manual export or comparison
- Monitoring jobs auto-created and auto-retired
- Complements your existing monitoring dashboards - nothing to rebuild
- Decommission legacy collectors and their config files where they're no longer needed
A feedback loop that keeps your CMDB honest
CMDB accuracy tends to drift for structural reasons, not because of any one platform - the record rarely gets updated as fast as the network actually changes.
Because monitoring is now driven directly from the CMDB, an inaccurate record produces a visible monitoring consequence for the first time - a practical incentive to keep it current, where none existed before.
What our customers are saying
We were amazed at getting value from 2Steps so rapidly. The implementation was fast and it was easy to use without any previous expertise in building user transactions.
The 2Steps team are world class professionals. I'm very happy to have them as partners for years to come.
Three letters – OMG! 2Steps is something Splunk absolutely should have as part of our portfolio. I'd LOVE to incorporate this into every one of my client presentations.
We chose to work with 2Steps due to its tight integration with Splunk and flexibility to work with a variety of platforms.
